Stan Hill Moose Antler Eagle Sculpture I

Hand Carved Eagle Sculpture by Iroquois Native American Stan Hill. Carved from a moose horn this piece is signed and dated 1984. Stan Hill (1921- 2003), is known for his antler and bone carvings and his works are featured in museums nationwide.

Stan Hill never intended to become an artist and worked most of his life in steel and iron works. During WWII he was a metal smith in the Navy and did deep sea dives to fix battleships. When his son died in a car accident in 1971 it changed his life forever. He took a trip to Alaska and saw his first bald eagle which inspired many of his pieces. Finding a new love, he decided at the age of 55 to recreate himself and support his family through his new found trade. His work made him feel connected to the spiritual world, his ancestors, and his deceased son. He believed all creation to be sacred and celebrated which is portrayed in each piece of his work.
