What is Lladro?

Video Translation: Hi, this is Jennifer with City Farmhouse Antiques and I am here with a few beautiful pieces of our newest Lladro collectibles that we have acquired. This is an unusual piece. So what is Lladro? Lladro has been a brand that has been around since 1953. It is a very well known brand all over the world for very fine sculptured porcelain figurines. Anything marked with the Lladro trademark is known to be made with exceptional quality and craftmanship. The Lladro brand is well known all over the world. In 1953 this Spanish brand got its start by three brothers Juan, Jose, and Vicente Lladro that started the company in Spain.  Over the years their pieces have become more and more complex. You will see on the bottom of each piece, and I will show you in a minute, what the mark looks like. This piece is a bust of a woman. Look at the fine detail. This is what Lladro pieces are known for. Look at every petal on these gorgeous and delicate pink roses that are tucked behind her ear. Lladro pieces are known to be made in soft pastels. This piece is about 12 inches tall. Each piece is hand painted and hand done and you can see the detail. They developed the single firing process which was an improvement upon the three firing process. Each piece has start dates and retired dates and is marked with the Lladro logo on the bottom. There you can see the maker's mark. They will have a model or sculpture number that helps to identify them as well. They have limited edition pieces that were made in limited quantities.  This is a Don Quixote piece. He has a signed plaque that comes with him, but I didn't get it in the video with us today. Lladro makes a lot of cultural pieces as well like this Don Quixote piece, having more of a Spanish theme, as well as Asian pieces and animals, children with puppies, cats, seasons, etc. There is a Lladro collectible made for just about any occasion. You can see when I turn him back around his sword over here. When you look over these pieces you have to be so careful to check for damage because they are so intricate. They also have to be packed very well due to all the detail. I'm always so surprised how people just throw these pieces in a box and ship them out..it's unbelievable to me. When you order these pieces many of them don't come with their boxes if they are retired pieces and have been preowned. Therefore, it's important to buy your pieces from someone that is a reputable dealer that knows how to pack them well. As you can see with all the detail with the fragile fingers etc. they are just not going to survive being put in the mail if they are not packaged and shipped correctly. This one, I believe, is called the "socialite". She will be up on the website at www.cityfarmhouseantiques.com as well as all the other pieces. If I don't happen to have one of these pieces listed and you are watching this video and are interested in something in particular please message us on the website and I am happy to get back to you. Wanted to show you one last one that is a little more modern as Lladro artists started becoming even more inventive in the 2010's. I have never seen a piece like this before. I just bought this piece and brought this piece back. This one is very different and much more modern looking and unique. This is a completely different style and is about 12 inches tall. You can see that it is marked on the bottom and numbered. Some of the pieces will be signed. This is a Paul Smith piece titled "The Guest" and marked Atelier. Here you can see the back. Again, all hand painted and hand done. Again, we will get these pieces up on the website, Lladro is featured all over the world like I had mentioned. They are in museums, in boutiques. They are a huge attraction for collectors so we like to always be able to offer a nice collection especially for people looking for those hard to find pieces that are retired. Be sure and check out our website at www.cityfarmhousentiques.com and give us a like on Facebook. Tell us which one out of these four are your favorite. See ya next week.
